Making up PTFE Bananas PTFE shafts are flexible, gentle and are better suited to wearing while pregnant than steel, titanium or some other metal. While the shafts are supplied straight, they can be bent easily by hand and retain a curve when bent. When being worn though pregnancy, it can be a good idea to make the shaft quite long to avoid pressure on the piercing - 5mm longer than usual is about right. | |
How to make PTFE Bananas Decide what length you want the PTFE Banana to be when complete. (12mm in this example, as per Fig. 4).
Stage 1. The PTFE shaft is supplied at 30mm (Fig. 1). Calculate the length you want the banana be. (This is measured as ball-to-ball distance as shown in fig 4). Then add 8mm to this. In the example the final size wanted is 12mm, so cut shaft to 20mm (Fig. 2a.)
Stage 2. Cut a tiny corner out of each end (using sharp scissors), as per Fig 2b. This makes threading on the balls easier. Take care not to shorten the shaft - only cut little corners out.

Stage 3. Thread on the balls - both ends. If you find this tricky to get started, use a metal ball to thread on first as this will cut a thread. Then replace the metal ball with the balls you want to use as per Fig. 3.
Stage 4. Bend to shape. The PTFE is very flexible, so over-bend it and it will settle back in a better position for you. You will not break it! Your PTFE banana should now look like Fig. 4.
Stage 5. Take one ball off and gently fit the banana in your navel. Screw the ball back on.
